Rivers open after snowmelt. Excellent dry fly fishing as mayflies and caddis hatch. Grayling are especially active. Water levels can be high early in the season.

Summer (Jul – Aug)

Peak season with midnight sun fishing in northern rivers. Best variety of hatches. Brown trout feed aggressively in the long daylight hours. Ideal for wading.

Autumn (Sep – Oct)

Trophy season — large brown trout become aggressive before spawning. Streamer fishing excels. Beautiful fall colors along the rivers. Some rivers close mid-September.

Winter (Nov – Apr)

Most rivers are closed for conservation. Some southern rivers offer limited winter fishing for trout. Ice fishing on connected lakes is popular.
